Kate Matthews
Practice Director & Registered Psychologist

With a diverse background in child protection and educational settings in remote Australia, I bring extensive expertise to the field of psychology. Motivated by a desire to make a difference, I began my career advocating for vulnerable young people in child protection, which ignited my commitment to mental health support. Transitioning to educational settings, I continued my dedication to nurturing young minds and recognised the crucial role of trauma-informed practices in an educational setting.

My journey then led me into corrections, where I gained further insights into complex trauma and the significant impacts of backgrounds on mental health. This experience deepened my understanding of trauma, addiction, and the complex interplay between psychology and social systems, enriching my overall perspective of human behavior.

I have a strong foundation in evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I am currently finalising accreditation in both the Westmead program for anxiety and social skills, as well as the Cool Kids program for children and adolescents. My proficiency in these approaches allows me to tailor interventions to address the unique needs of each individual, particularly those experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, grief and loss, trauma, and childhood adversities. By empowering clients to develop effective coping strategies, I help them achieve meaningful change.

Courtney Norton
Practice Director & Registered Psychologist

I’m Courtney, a dedicated and passionate Registered Psychologist with a diverse background in working with individuals across various life stages. I have a heart for empowering others, and I have embarked on a fulfilling journey spanning from supporting children and adolescents with disabilities to delving into the complexities of Forensic Psychology.

My career began in the disability space working as direct support through to behaviour management. I soon discovered a passion for fostering social skills and emotional regulation in children. Witnessing the power of holistic family support, I have a deep appreciation for working collaboratively with families for a range of concerns and for the completion of assessments. Further, I also enjoy supporting fellow women navigating their own paths to, and through motherhood.

I then transitioned into Forensic Psychology which further fueled my commitment to understanding and supporting mental health and the intricacies of human behaviour. I’ve worked on honing my skills in trauma and anxiety for adults, drawing from evidenced-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Schema Therapy.

Driven by an enthusiasm for life, I bring a vibrant energy to each session and I aim to create a warm and nurturing environment. When I’m not in the clinic, you’ll likely find me amidst a camping adventure, cooking or spending time with family.

Dr Michele Jordan
Clinical Psychologist

HI, I’m Michele, a passionate Clinical Psychologist with a diverse background in working with individuals across the lifespan. Interested about child development, I began my career in child protection before transitioning into psycho-oncology and then working with families affected by the diagnosis of an eating disorder. I have been in private practice in Coffs Harbour for the last 7 years and there is nothing else I would rather do. I have experience in working with individuals dealing with wide range of mental health difficulties and welcome all referrals.

With a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, my research focused on understanding anxiety in children and working with families to develop effective lifelong strategies. This still remains one of my great passions.

I am also very passionate about working with and empowering individuals and families with a neurodivergent background including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

I have a strong foundation in evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and I tailor interventions to each individuals needs to deliver positive outcomes for children, adolescents and adults. Utilising individual strengths, I endeavour to support and empower individuals to be the best version of themselves with lifelong skills that support their overall mental health and well-being.

Emma Tudor
Registered Psychologist

Hi there! I’m Emma, a registered psychologist and lover of gratitude with a passion for helping people find their balance in life. With over ten years of experience working with individuals of all ages, I specialise in a wide range of issues in particular anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder but I’m especially passionate about supporting children, teens, and families. That’s my sweet spot!

I’m all about helping you tackle life’s challenges with a fresh perspective. Using a mix of evidence-based therapies, a touch of humor, and some down-to-earth conversation, I work with clients to build resilience, boost self-awareness, and—most importantly—find practical solutions that work for your life.

When I’m not diving into the intricacies of the mind, you’ll find me at the beach. I’m a big believer in the power of the outdoors, so you’ll often catch me exploring new places, or enjoying a family adventure. Speaking of family, they’re everything to me. I’ve got two little boys who keep me on my toes and remind me daily of the joys and challenges of raising little humans.

My goal? To walk alongside you and bring a little light and a lot of practical tools into your life, no matter what you’re navigating. Whether you’re looking to untangle your thoughts, navigate life’s curveballs, or just get a little more chill, I am here to help you find your balance

Life is tough but therapy doesn’t have to be so let’s get real, get curious, and work together to help you or your family thrive!l

Mark Simpson
Registered Psychologist

As a psychologist, I adopt a holistic biopsychosocial approach, integrating practical strategies and cognitive techniques to help individuals overcome life’s challenges and lead healthier, more purposeful lives. I support people dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, addiction, and habit change, and also work with athletes, musicians, and performers to enhance their performance.

As a Christian, I offer therapy rooted in faith, providing compassionate care and fostering growth and healing in the context of life’s challenges. I also offer services such as couples therapy, NDIS assistance, self-care workshops, and evidence-based mental health interventions.

In sport psychology, I specialise in helping athletes and coaches optimise mental performance and wellbeing through tailored workshops and one-on-one sessions. From goal setting and emotional regulation to training optimisation and dealing with setbacks, I work to strengthen both individual and team performance. I also offer embedded services within clubs and organisations to support athletes, coaches, and management in fostering a positive, performance-enhancing environment.

Whether you are an athlete looking to enhance your mental skills or someone seeking support in your personal life, my goal is to walk alongside you, helping you cultivate resilience, faith, and a sense of purpose.

Dr James Minson
Registered Psychologist

James Minson has a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Mental Health Counselling, and Art Therapy from Antioch University, Seattle, and a Doctorate in Psychology with a specialisation in Health Psychology from Walden University, Minneapolis. He has worked in a range of settings with diverse groups including forensics, community health, and creative therapy, and he is an active artist and musician. His approach to mental health is about mind-body integration, and looking at the “whole person”.

His relationship with you is about making sense of how this all fits together, exploring unhelpful thoughts and behaviour, and identifying different options. There is a focus on your positive strengths, building confidence, improved emotional regulation, and increasing your ability to solve problems. Because our mental health influences how we think, feel and move, and how we communicate and relate to the world, and there are significant impacts on our physical wellbeing, recovery is viewed in a holistic context

Danielle Irving
Provisional Psychologist

I am a Provisional Psychologist with a passion for supportive and collaborative therapy empowering individuals, carers, and children to achieve sustainable change and reach self-directed goals.

I began my career as a Social and Emotional Wellbeing Worker (SEWB) in a remote community helping Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children and adults with intergenerational trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief and loss, and relationship difficulties. I pay respect to the Barkindji and Mutthi Mutthi people who allowed me to walk with them on their journeys to improved mental health.

Here on Gumbanygirr Country, I worked as a strengths-based family therapist helping parents and carers address mental health related barriers to increasing parenting strategies without the use of physical discipline and/or neglect.

I have experience in evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD, Motivational Interviewing for Addiction, and Reinforcement Based Therapy for Addiction.

My therapeutic style features developing strong rapport through active listening and unconditional positive regard. I help clients develop their own goals, recognise their own strengths and barriers to goals, introduce evidence-based interventions, and teach clients how to do these things for themselves. I want my clients to finish a course of therapy having learned life-long skills that enable them to move forward in life.

For improved health and wellbeing, I practice the self-care I promote to my clients. For me, this includes all things salt and fresh water, family, and friends.
